Watt, Hurst and Farson return victorious

HOCKEY players from Banbridge Academy had a starring role in Ulster’s inter-pro success.

After an opening scoreless draw against Munster, Ulster secured two well earned victories including a significant 3-0 victory over a much fancied Leinster side followed by a 2-0 win over Munster.

Requiring a draw in their final game to win the tournament for the first time since 2009 Ulster appeared to have the tournament won after securing a two goal lead after 40 minutes.

However two goals in five minutes brought Leinster level before Ulster saw the game out for a terrific tournament success. The Academy trio of Tim Watt, Matthew Hurst and Sam Farson all played a big part in the weekends triumph and coach Scott McCandless should be deservedly happy with his and the teams success.

The U18 side saw Jonny McKee scoring another fine Ulster goal against Leinster but both McKee and David McCracken will return frustrated at being edged out by both Munster and Leinster to finish bottom after the two day tournament.

Their attentions will now return to fully focus on all things Academy as the McCullough Cup playoff against RBAI awaits on Wednesday.
