'We could have done a lot better'

Manager's View v Ballymena

THERE was a wee bit of confidence taken out of Thursday night’s Mid-Ulster Cup win.

We had our chances to come in two or three nil up at half time. We were unlucky a couple of times and the misses were due to bad finishing a couple of times as well.

The game could have been over at half-time but it’s the same old story; not killing teams off and not taking chances. If you don’t score goals and kill teams off then you don’t win matches convincingly and that’s been our problem for the last few months.

Once again we gave away an avoidable goal. We could do better defensively but we let them in with a soft goal. There were two players out on the wing with Darren Lockhart and he got away from them and crossed it in to the unmarked Kevin Kelbie. That’s not good defending at all.

Season review

WELL I’m happy to finish eighth but it was very much a hit and miss season.

We got off to a flyer but hit the wall and went out of Cups and out of the league contention early doors but at least we steered clear of the relegation area which the club have been involved in in the past number of years.

On a teacher’s report it would be ‘could do better.’ That’s myself, the staff and the team. We could all have done better this season and we’re disappointed. It wasn’t good enough and we underachieved.

In saying that there was a slight improvement and the foundations are being put together. We weren’t in a panic situation in the relegation area.
