“WE DIDN’T DESERVE ANYTHING”

The Ballymoney men had enjoyed a great start to their league campaign, however, a misture of tired legs following their ‘big game’ at Windsor Park against Linfield on Tuesday night and a below par performance saw Jason Wilmont’s men drop three valuable home points.

Glebe were first to threaten, when Kennoway blazed over the bar from the edge of the box. However United hit the front five minutes later when Friel toe poked in from a tight angle after Tommons’ pass.

Glebe came back at Limavady, however, the visitors were soon bossing the fixture again.

United were causing problems with the ball over the top to Friel, but no one was there for the Roesiders. United kept probing with Owens having his shot well saved on 28 minutes and Tommons seeing his scissors kick fly over the bar a minute later.

Glebe were unfortunate not to score almost immediately, as Wells was beaten by Brown in a race for a loose ball in the box, but the keeper made him rush the shot and the winger saw his effort scrape the outside of the post.

United got their second just before the break, with Friel being unmarked in the six yard box to profit from an inch perfect cross, nonchalantly heading home with the Glebe defence all at sea.

The second half saw Limavady in the 65th minute when McCreadie left the home defence scattered and the ball was perfectly set up for Friel to stab the ball home. Friel scored agin in the 75th minute when he tapped in Owens’ free kick.

The Glebe boss was obviously extremley disappointed at the outcome and he commented: “We were brutal and just weren’t at the races.

“Limavady are a good side and there’s no taking that away from them, we were just second best all day. They would be my choice to go up this year. Playing them on Saturday was a marker for me and it lets me see where we are at.

“We started off the game very well and maybe could have scored. Then they scored after 11 minutes and after that we looked tired and leggy. We gave away some awful goals which didn’t help and there are days like that when you just have to hold your hands up and say we didn’t deserve anything from the game.

“If we had gone in at half time a goal down I would have been happy enough about that, I could have got them in and chatted to them. However, we gave away the craziest goal just before the break. We had numerous attempt to clear it and didn’t and were punished. If I was being honest Limavady could have scored a few more.”

Jason and his management team will have to put this bad result behind them and push on to their next game on 19th September against Sport & Leisure.

“We now have a free week although I would have preferred to have had a game and kept the lads at it. I won’t be giving them the Saturday off, we will come in and train, possible on the beach again.

“We will be training hard again tonight (Tuesday) and also on Thursday night, we need to get re-focussed.

“The game against Sport & Leisure will be a tough, tough game. It’s one of the hardest places in the league to go to. Getting anything up there would be a big bonus to us but I will be missing a number of players through suspension and some players are unavailable. You just have to soldier on though.”
