WE MUST GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME

BANN coach Mark Tumilty has told his squad that they must learn from last season's mistakes to become the best team in Ulster.

And as well as asking his team to dominate in Ulster he has challenged his players to win the Irish Cup.

Tumilty has organised a vigourous pre-season schedule for the Havelock Park side with some of Ireland's top sides paying a visit to the Lurgan Road ground.

The programme gets underway on Saturday afternoon with the Northern Ireland Schoolboys coming to town, starting at 11am.

Next weekend Monkstown come to Havelock on the Saturday before a trip to Corinthinans the next day.

Annadale, Glenanne and Monkstown again come back to Banbridge on August 27th, 28th and 29th respectively before a trip to Dublin over the weekend of September 4-5 to play Glenanne and Pembroke Wanderers.

"We should be in good nick for the start of the season," said Tumilty.

"Last season with us just coming in to the job we weren't able to get as well organised as we would have liked but I would like to think that we have a good programme lined up for the boys.

"We got back to training on Tuesday and the boys look fitter than they did at this time last year.

"There are no new faces this year but with the likes of Stephen Dowds and Philip Brown finishing with school it means that they can dedicate more time to us and that they will have fewer games to play.

"We have largely the same squad that we had last year. Once again we will be without Eugene Magee and Geoff McCabe as they will be in in Holland again but I am hoping that they will be back with us for next season.

Meanwhile the Ulster Hockey Union has released the dates and fixtures for the ONE1918 Kirk Cup.

The competition will open the 2010-2011 hockey playing season with fixtures beginning on Saturday September 11.

After last season's disappointing display in the final lose to Cookstown, Banbridge will be seen as favourites to progress from Section B having been grouped with fellow Premier league club North Down and Senior one sides Belfast Harlequins and Antrim.

"I want us to be competitive in Ulster," added Tumilty.

"I want us to get a few more players pushed on to the next level of their careers too. I think that this should be the year that Bruce McCandless gets himself established in the Irish set-up.

"In fact Bruce has just been named in the squad for the test series against Malaysia.

"I'm also hoping that we can see the likes of Drew Carlisle and Scott Forbes break into the Irish set-up too; I think they're more than capable and ready for the move up."

As well as going for honours in Ulster Tumilty says he wants Bann to have a go at being victorious at national level.

"I would love to win the Irish Cup," the Bann coach added.

"It's special in that it's a great day out plus it's all about what happens on the day while the All Ireland League sort of just looks after itself.

"I think we are more than capable of winning something at that level. If you look at all the other top Irish sides they've all lost players while we've kept the same players and they've all had a year's more experience under their belt."

He added, "Last year was the first time that Bann were really in contention in the league and I want us to learn from that and build on it for success this year.

"I want us to be going into next season defending titles and as a force to be reckoned with."
