WE MUST TAKE OUR CHANCES

GLENAVON boss Marty Quinn has asked his side to start putting away their goal-scoring opportunities.

The Blues travel to face Lisburn Distillery on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) before taking on Cliftonville at Mourneview Park on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm) and Quinn knows that his side must start picking up the points.

They have now lost five of their last six Carling Premiership games and must halt the slide soon to avoid a repeat of last season’s run of eleven games without a victory.

Their latest disappointment came last Friday evening when they lost 2-1 to Newry City after spurning a series of chances in front of goal and the boss says that points are up for grabs this weekend if they can find their shooting boots before Saturday afternoon.

“Where do we go from here? We go to Distillery and take our chances. If we do that, we’ll win the game,” he told the ‘MAIL.’

“We’ve just got to keep at the lads and keep geeing them up and try and get them organised. I went to watch the Distillery game on Saturday and if we all play well and do our jobs, we can win the match

“However, they’ve had an absolutely fantastic start this season and they’re no mugs. Glenn Ferguson was still outstanding until he was taken off injured. He was probably the best player on the pitch just by using his experience and his passing ability.

“Overall, they’ve a strong back four and they’re strong through the middle of their team.”

Aiming to help the Lurgan side to get the better of the Whites will be talented winger Trevor Molloy who returns to the side after serving his automatic suspension last weekend.

“Trevor Molloy will come back into the starting XI, there’s no doubt about that,” said Quinn.

“We missed him badly last week. You can’t play without a quality player like that. He’s very important to us at the minute. That will possibly be the only change.”

And after Molloy gets back into his rhythm, the Blues return to Mourneview Park where they will come up against a Cliftonville side who haven’t got a win in five Carling Premiership matches.

“Cliftonville aren’t getting the rub of the green at the minute,” said Quinn.

“But they’re good at the back like Distillery. Peter Hutton was very good when I saw them last Saturday. They’re busy going forward too but they just aren’t firing on all cylinders at the minute. It will be a tricky game but we’ve got to get over Distillery first and get back to winning ways. We’ve got to take our chances and get victories.”
