Weather enforces long lay-off for Glebe Rangers

“We were due to play Limavady in the Intermediate Cup on Friday but their Irish game took precedence and then it was called off because of the weather which means they have to try and get it played next week now.Unless the IFA re-schedules the Dundela game, which I can’t see them doing, then we won’t have anything until 2nd January.

“It’s unbelievable, its so hard to keep players motivated and keep them training. You have some guys who train hard no matter what and then there are others who think hwat’s the point in training if we don’t have a game.

“Our Chairman was in touch with Limavady to see if we could get the game played on a Tuesday night before Christmas, but at this stage nothing has happened yet but we are hopeful.

“I will try and get some friendlies to give the lads match time, we need to do something because we can’t sit from the end of November until January without a match. I know a lot of other clubs are in the same situation so hopefully we will be able to get something organised.”

Wilmont is hoping to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season when the transfer window opens in January and he has already been on the hunt for players.

“I’m working on getting some new players to the club but its going to be tough. I have been speaking to a couple of lads but its getting players to leave their clubs in the middle of the season.

“I always find this window is particularly hard to get players in but I’ll keep working at it. I’ve been looking out for boys who maybe haven’t been getting much game time at other clubs and who could do a job for me and I’m still hopeful that I will get a couple over the line.”
