Weekend round-up

THE final of the Derry senior hurling championship will be between old rivals Lavey and Kevin Lynch's Dungiven. Both won their semi finals at Swatragh on Saturday by comfortable margins at the end.

First up was the meeting of Lavey and Banagher and it ended in a 0-19 to 1-12 victory for the Gulladuff side whose youth and speed had a big bearing on the final outcome. With Paddy Henry deadly accurate form frees Lavey were in a comfortable 0-11 to 0-5 interval lead. They were well clear when Banagher introduced four experienced subs among them county footballer Mark Lynch who scored 1-2 but Lavey never looked like losing and ended up a comfortable four points in front.

The Lavey scorers were Paddy Henry 0-9, Sam Dodds and Cailean O'Boyle and Colm Murphy and0-3 each and Ben Dodds 0-1.

Banagher scorers mark Lynch 1-2, Oisin McCloskey 0-6, Gregory Biggs 0-3 and Gary Stevenson 0-1.

It was not until the final fifteen minutes that a dogged Slaughtneil team gave way to the holders Kevin Lynch's who won a poor game by 0-12 to 0-6. Slaughtneil had a goal disallowed and a player sent off in the second half but over the hour the holders who sot seventeen wides were the better team. The Kevin Lynch scorers were Paddy Kelly 0-3, Cathal McKeever, Fergal McGuigan and Mark McCormick 0-2 each, Cairan Mackle, Patrick McCloskey and Cairan McElhinney 0-1 each. Slaughtneil scorers Gareth O'Kane 0-2, Fergal McEldowney, Jarleth Mulholland and Damien Kearney 0-1 each.

In a mid week Division One game Slaughtmanus at home held Magherafelt to a draw 0-8 each.

In Division Two Greenlough had an excellent away win at Craigbane by 2-10 to 0-12 despite soaking up a lot of second half pressure. Two goals mid way through the first half from Enda Lynn who finished with 1-4 and Seamus Graham left Craigbane too much to do. Those two goals separated the teams at half time on a score of 2-5 to 0-5.

With Blaine Gormley dominating midfield in the second half Craigbane had a lot of possession but were unable to find a goal and Greenlough held out to leapfrog Castledawson at the top of the table. Lee Moore 0-6 and Blaine Gormley 0-4 were the top Craigbane marksmen.

In the junior championship quarter finals Magilligan scored an impressive 1-13 to 0-6 win over Glack who finished with twelve players. Magilligan also had a player dismissed in a bad tempered game. Martin McIvor was the star of the show scoring 1-6 for the winners who now meet Dore Trasna in the semi final.

As expected Limavady Wolfhounds proved far too strong for Doire Colmcille and won in a canter by 5-16 to 0-5. They will play Ardmore in the other semi final.
