We're all questioning ourselves

MANAGER'S VIEW

WE’RE not killing teams off at all. Our problem is goalscoring, which has been well documented.

I’m questioning myself, my team selections, my team and we’re not doing a very good job. I’ve brought players in as well and it hasn’t worked out. It’s just a case of us bringing each other down. Is there something about Glenavon? I don’t know but I hope to put it right.

I’m very determined and I still believe in myself. I’m positive. While I was as down and as low as you can be after the game on Saturday, now my thoughts are on next season, who we can bring in and who we have to let out to do that.

I’m determined to turn the club around. I hope to have my own stamp on the team next season. If it’s not happening this time next year, Glenavon will be looking for another manager, it’s as simple as that.

But at the moment I’m very keen to get this season over and very keen to get a few players in and to get into the new season.

Brendan Shannon has probably been our best player over the last month or so and I thought Conor Walsh had a good game on Saturday. He was probably our best player on the day. He probably had a seven or eight out of ten and Brendan had a seven but outside of that I think everyone probably had a five or six out of ten. A lot of the team had a very average and below par performance. Thank goodness we got off to a good start to the season or we would have been in big, big trouble.

Mark Haughey has done alright recently but I just felt that Willo’s aggression had got the upper hand on him and that’s why he was picked. Willo has been outstanding in the few games he has played at centre-half for us and I went with that. It was a very hard call.

A very strange substitution was made as well, moving Shannon over to the left and bringing Haughey on at right-back. Did I get it right? I thought Shannon did OK at left-back but Mark didn’t look too comfortable at right-back. Hugh Davey held his hand up and said that he was poor but should we have left things as they were or should we have put Carvill in there at left-back? As I say, we’re all questioning ourselves.
