‘We’re in it to win it’ - Kincaid

Lisburn Distillery boss Tommy Kincaid says he’s out to win the Intermediate Cup for the second time in his career.

The Whites continue their campaign on Saturday, hosting Coleraine Reserves in the third round (kick-off 1.30pm) and the boss wants to get his hands on the trophy again in 2014.

He knows what it takes to win the competition as his Glenavon side beat Donegal Celtic in the 2005 final, 4-3 on penalty kicks. That’s a feat he’s keen to repeat.

He said: “It’s a great competition to win because there are so many teams in it. We’ll go as far as we can. When you enter a competition, you have to go all out to win it so that what’s we’ll be doing.”

There’s a long way to go before Distillery reach that stage, however. Even with a win on Saturday, there would still be another four rounds before the final of the competition. Kincaid, for now, isn’t looking any further than this weekend’s game against Coleraine’s second string.

He said: “I’ve been doing a bit of research on them and they’re a very young side. It’ll be a hard game and we’ll be treating it like any other.”

Kincaid took over at the Whites in the summer after their relegation. Currently sitting ninth in Championship One, the boss isn’t ruling out an immediate return to the Premiership.

He said: “I’m really enjoying it here. We didn’t have one player staying on from last season so we had to come in and start from scratch to build a whole new team. We still want to compete and be able to push for promotion. We’re not stupid. We know it’ll be difficult but the boys have all blended well and quickly. We’ve a great mix of good experienced heads and talented young players coming through.”
