West Down Wheelers hold successful pursuit series

It turned out to be a cracker of a race at the first round of the West Down Wheelers’ Australian/Pursuit series.

32 riders signed on to take on this tough but enjoyable course,

The Rathfriland Hill is seen as the main challenge on this course and so it proved with all three gorups losing a rider or two.

The leaders with West Down Wheelers’ John Clyde, Dave Friz, and Allister made the most of their four minute handicap over the big A4 group with a few A2 riders in it.

It all came down to the straight to the finish line, with all three groups neck and neck but noone could catch the front group who were giving it everything.

John Clyde took a deserved win from Allister, with Dave Friz in third.

There was a good effort from Andrea and Dorothy who took on this race when some men opted out of it.

Last Saturday four riders from West Down Wheelers traveled down to Hillsborough to take part in the Tommy Given Memorial race.

Matt, Clive, Andy, and Karl all rode well in what was a tough circuit with Clive the pick of them this time, finishing well.

This Saturday sees all roads leading to Katesbridge for West Down Wheelers, West Down GP Road Race.

There are 200 riders expected to take part.

Sign on from 9am in Katesbridge Hall, with refreshments available in the same hall after the race,

There will be members from Dromore CC helping with marshalling duties as West Down Wheelers have eight riders representing the club in the races.

TVR are holding an Australian Pursuit this Wednesday night.

To sum up the season so far, Paul (Wilkie) and Darren are doing super, with Matt now riding well and still improving.

There is a meeting in the Albert on Monday night at 7.30pm for final details for the GP.

Anyone who ordered a hoodie can collect it at the meeting.
