THE new season got underway for the West Down Wheelers with the opening time trial on Tuesday night of last week, a five mile time trial on the Lurgan Road for the Ronnie Russell Shield.

Twenty riders took part in ideal conditions. Who would be the quickest was the chatter at the start and they didn’t have long to wait.

It was that man Paul Wilkinson who had all the answers on the night with a fast ride of 11m 14s to win the first trophy of the season. On this form Paul is going to have a cracking season.
