Wheelers do the club proud at Cicli-Sport Races

LAST Saturday nine riders from the West Down Wheelers travelled to Coagh to take part in the Cicli Sport Races, promoted by East Tyrone CC, namely M Alexander, Ian Walker, P Wilkinson, J Kernaghan, A Walker, P McKinstry, D Cartmill, D Gordan, and C Adamson.

This time last year the Wheelers only had P Wilkinson in the A race but now they have Mark, Ally, Dan, Ian and John. They all have got the points to move them up so its looking good for the Wheelers.

The A race got off to a fast start - six laps of a tough course and there was a handicap betwen the A1, A2, and A3s. Out of the Wheelers Mark, John, Ian and Paul were the pick of the bunch. Paul and John got caught up in a bad crash; thankfully they are ok.

Dan Gordan is a name to watch out for in the future - he’s only a schoolboy but doing very well in his first year of open racing.

In the B race P McKinstry, Davy Cartmill and Clive Adamson were representing the Wheelers. They had four laps to do.

Clive was the pick of them once again; the three races he has done this year he have finished with the leaders. He is never afraid to go to the front. The wheelers are trying to get him to go for points but he says he is enjoying wat hes doing.

Race Secretary Clive says he was delighted to see nine Wheelers taking part there was plenty of banter before and after the racing which turned out to be a good days craic.

Clive says that there is more riders who could ride the A4s if they put in the right training.

On Tuesday night they are running a 2-up TT on the Castlewellan Road. The club has some new riders and they will be giving them the chance to get a TT in the legs before the season starts.

The club is on the up - new members, new gear, and riders representing the club well in open racing. All they need now is for the rest to support the club nights and do most if not all the races.
