Where now for Duddy?

WHAT next for John Duddy after he suffered his second defeat of his career to Julio Cesar Chavez Junior in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday.

The 'Derry Destroyer' was always on the back foot as the Mexican's jab continued to cause all the problems particularly in the early rounds; however Duddy did wobble Chavez Junior in the sixth round.

Unfortunately after that cracking right, the middleweight fighter never really troubled the Mexican in what was billed as the WBC World title eliminator.

"I knew that I hurt him in the sixth round. Unfortunately, I wasn't good enough to finish him off. He had good pressure, and he hits solidly with both hands," said Duddy.

"I thought that it was a very good fight. I came here and I tried to do what I thought that I could do. I wish that I could have done better.

"In the third round I rocked him with a good right and he battled back and that's the sign of a good fighter."

One judge Juergen Langos gave every round to Chavez, 120-108, while the other two Julie Lederman and Glen Rick Crocker had it 117-111 and 116-112 respectively, but the defeat may mean that the 30-year-old returns home to the Emerald Isle.

Although he could stay in the States and promoter Bob Arum is thought to be already lining up a possible bout with former WBC light-middleweight champion Yuri Foreman, a chance to return home and take on the likes of Andy Lee or Mathew Macklin may also be to Duddy's liking.

However that encounter against Foreman may already be sorted out according to Arum.

"As soon as (Duddy) recovers and as soon as Yuri's knee heals, we're going to sell out Madison Square Gardens next year," admitted the promoter.
