Whites face big game this weekend

ST Peter’s face one of the biggest games of the year this Sunday away to Keady.

The Whites will travel to the mid-Armagh venue at the end of a rewarding season in the knowledge that Shane O’Neill’s are already up with possibly St Paul’s clinching the second spot.

But the North Street side, who lie in third place if successful on Sunday, will automatically claim a promotion place.

Although this weekend is the mandatory cut-off date for the All-County Leagues, the Whites, even if beaten on Sunday, could be thrown a lifeline considering that their unfinished game with Madden, which was abandoned earlier in the season, would may have to be refixed which would prove crucial to any promotion aspirations held at the Freecrow club.

Whilst opinions at St Peter’s are wide and varied as to whether the Whites are ready for promotion, some believe that they should push for a top flight place which would copperfasten a fantastic run of form and see promotion secured two years on the trot.

The Whites would still be in peak condition following their recent championship run and would have a fighting chance of snatching a third promotion place if defeating Keady on Sunday.

Young players Niall McConville, Aaron Findan, Sean O’Neill, Niall Creaney and Owen McCormack would all have the drive to play division one football next season albeit in a league which would prove a lot tougher, as both Clann Éireann and Wolfe Tones, who were both promoted, found out this season.

St. Peter’s could get a second bite at the cherry but they would be keen to get a result on Sunday against Keady to secure promotion to the top flight.
