Whites suffer home blow

DUNGANNON Swifts dashed Lisburn Distillery hopes of a vital home win in a high scoring encounter at New Grosvenor on Saturday.

The last two meetings between the clubs failed to bring a goal - not so on this occasion as the Swifts ran riot after Chris Morgan opened his account since his recent move from Newry.

Things got even worse for the home side when Alain Emerson made it 2-0 after only 12 minutes.

However, the Whites did stage a fightback with new signing Joe McDonnell hitting the target and then Gary Browne levelled matters after 40 minutes from the penalty spot.

Having just got back into the match Distillery should have been going into the break on a high, but in added time Timmy Adamson took the sting out of their tail to fire the Swifts ahead again.

There was no way back in the second half and Dungannon ran out easy winners in the end with further goals from Ryan Mullan (2) and Michael Ward.

The Whites now face a crucial must win trip to Institute on Tuesday night.

Linfield's match at Institute was called off on Saturday - very late - fans already well on the way to Drumahoe before word filtered through that it has been called off at 1.50pm because of a frozen pitch.

Linfield are in action on Tuesday night against Glentoran at The Oval.
