Jason Wilmont and the rest of the management team have been working non stop to ensure the squad is as strong as possible before the league campaign gets underway.

One of their main targets was Willie Beckett who played last season at Ballybogey, and Jason knew securing Beckett’s commitment to the Glebe would be a major boost for the club.

Despite competition for the talented player from Coagh United, Beckett opted to choose his home town team, something that left many at Glebe delighted. Beckett now looks forward to a positive and hopefully successful season in Championship 2.

“I am really looking forward to the upcoming season with Glebe Rangers and the challenge ahead,” said Willie following his sides 8-1 win over Coleraine Reserves in the first pre-season friendly.

“I was really impressed with the professionalism of the management team when I first spoke with Jason and Ian (Bellingham). The training has been tough but enjoyable and the attitude of the players has been first class.

“There are a number of talented young players at the club and as Captain I am looking forward to helping them to develop and play without fear.

“The ultimate goal for this season is survival as there are possibly five teams getting relegated from Championship 2. We are very positive however that this is achievable and maybe more, who knows?”
