Win keeps the Ladies Seconds in hunt for the title

Lisnagarvey Ladies Seconds visited Pegasus Seconds at the Dub on wet Friday night.

The game began with a lot of tight play through the midfield, however the Garvey girls were competitive against an extremely strong line up for a 2nd XI.

Garvey began to produce some good attacking play but were unable to convert any of their early chances, mainly due to an outstanding Irish International Pegasus goalkeeper.

Lisnagarvey went one up on their 3rd short corner with a well taken shot from Jenna Flynn, beating the keeper into the corner of the net.

Although the game remained tight it was Lisnagarvey who continued to create chances going forward. At half time the score was 1-0 to Garvey.

Although Pegasus had some good possession through the centre of the field they failed to create any real chances on goal, due to some really solid defending from Garvey, well marshalled by Zara Kirkwood who had an outstanding game.

Garvey had a poor spell for ten minutes in the middle of the second half and at long last Pegasus created a clear cut chance in the Garvey circle.

After a superb save by Caroline Reid in nets, Pegasus were awarded a disputed penalty flick when the ball struck a Garvey defender’s foot as the ball was going wide from a Pegasus shot.

Pegasus converted, however the Garvey team regrouped, led by some fast attacking play by Captain Laura Wilson up front and the team continued to create chances in the Pegasus circle.

They scored the winner with a great display of close skill from Louise McCracken who found Jenna Flynn with a good cross, and Flynn converted with a composed flick past the keeper’s left.

Although it was a tight game, Garvey dominated the goal scoring opportunities demonstrated by a short corner count of 7 to Pegasus’ 1.

A solid performance away from home allows the Garvey team to continue in their pursuit of the Junior 1 League title.
