Winning Wildcats prepare to pounce

SUMMER holidays are well and truly over and it's with great enthusiasm that Coleraine Borough Council announces the return of Wildcats Activ8 in October.

The wildcats programme is specifically designed for boys and girls aged five to twelve years where children can learn new skills for sport, make new friends, get active and have lots of fun.

Roger Downey, Sports Development Officer at Coleraine Borough Council is looking forward to welcoming new and returning members to this year’s programme.

“In essence, we will be enhancing a child’s running, jumping and throwing; improving their agility, balance, co-ordination; increasing their speed, power, and endurance,” he said.

“Wildcats Activ8 also promotes the concept that children and young people should be active for at least sixty minutes per day. With Wildcats continuing to grow in popularity we are looking forward to welcoming back current club members and opening up for a new intake of boys and girls joining this child friendly club.”

Roger added: “Wildcats Activ8 Club comes highly recommended to any parent and guardian of a child aged between five to twelve years old. Children do not have to be talented in any particular sport; rather, just enjoy having fun and taking part in games as Wildcats is especially designed to cater for this age group.

“The appropriately qualified and vetted coaches are trained to progress the fundamental movement skills taught in schools and breakdown the acquisition of basic sporting skills for all abilities; plus the free membership pack is an added bonus.”

The Wildcats Membership pack comprises of a T-shirt, Information Booklet, Membership Card and Wildcat metal pin Badge. Also on the completion of each level all members’ will receive an exclusive certificate.

Wildcubs for the five to seven year olds meet each Tuesday from 4.30pm to 5.30pm and commences on Tuesday, October 5. Wildcats for the eight to twelve year olds meet each Friday and commences on Friday, October 8. Both club sections are held at Coleraine Leisure Centre.

Club membership is free, with a charge of 2.50 per week attending payable at centre reception.
