Wins for Portrush First and Second string on Saturday

Portrush were playing well, holding the ball and pressing the Antrim defence and five minutes into the game Aaron Kerr found the goal after some great out field play.

With Portrush pressing and in control of the game it wasn’t long until young Greame Christie put away a second.

Soon after another Portrush attack saw Leon smith assist Aaron Kerr for his second goal of the game to make it 3-0.

Portrush took their foot off the pedal allowing Antrim to come into the game again. And just before the break the were awarded a penalty flick which they converted.

After the break the game became less predictable with both sides playing some very attacking hockey. It wasn’t long before Leon Smith set up Greame Christie for his second of the game to make it 4-1.

Antrim kept going though and pulled back two late goals to leave the final score 4-3.

Some promising performances from the young players, and a good result for Portrush. However still plenty of work needed to be done especially the match fitness as Portrush let go a three-goal lead due to a lack of fitness and stamina.

Also work needed to be done in discipline with four cards displayed to the players it really put Portrush at a disadvantage.

Portrush Seconds produced a magnificent display to beat NI Civil Service Thirds 7-0 at the Quay Road.

Another fine team performance by Portrush with the forward line currently on fire.

However, just as pleasing is how resolute the defence has been with their third clean sheet in succession and the second XI will be looking to build on this positive start to the season.
