Team H finished with an overall total of 76 points, leaving them four clear of joint runners-up, team’s E and K who put on a strong performance in the final week but couldn’t quite bridge the gap to the leaders.

Team F took the prize for best team in the bottom section while team B had their best performance in the league, picking up nine points in the final week but unfortunately it was a case of too little, too late and they will receive the dreaded wooden spoons this year!

The overall individual competition came to a dramatic conclusion at the weekend with young Eamon Dornan, son of vice-captain Edgar, improving his final total by a staggering twenty shots after returning a phenomenal score of 42 points on Saturday.

Eamon’s six card total of 215 points left him two clear of George McVeigh with David Getty and Sean Brogan finishing on 212 points.

Not surprisingly, Eamon also finished first in Saturday’s stableford competition but only by a single point from Lawrence McQuillan with Shay Paul Duffin finishing in third place with a score of 37 points.

Gerry McConville proved to be unbeatable over the weekend as he won for the second day running, this time with 41 points with Paul Dillon in second place on 38 points.

There are pairs competitions arranged for each of the next three Saturday’s at Ballycastle Golf Club. This coming Saturday will be a fourball betterball competition, the following Saturday will be a two ball scramble and on Easter Saturday it is the traditional open mixed foursomes event.
