Winter League is up and running

THE Winter League, sponsored by the club professional, Jason Greenaway, is up and running.

The first of seven rounds started on Sunday last and it will end on next Saturday.

There are eight teams, each with 17 players. Just to give you an indication of the strength of each team, we will look at three players, the number one, the number nine and the number 17. And I will give them a ranking mark out of 10.

Team one: Rory Madeley, Ian Boyce and John G. Lennon. Ranking score: 9.

Team two: Ian Young, Damian Dunne and Robert Patterson. Ranking score: 7.

Team three: Christopher Quinn, P.J. Johmson and Dominic Quinn. Ranking score: 6.

Team four: Kieran Magennis, Verdun Bond and Seamus Mc Nally. Ranking score: 7.

Team five: Luke Woods, Seamus McGrath and John Cowan. Ranking score: 7.

Team six: Trevor Woods, Walter Smyth and Philip Strong. Ranking score 10.

Team seven: Bruce McCandless, Hugh Dunne and Ronnie Lavery. Ranking score: 7.

Team eight: Eugene Weir, Sherwin Curran and Thomas Nelson. Ranking score: 8.

It's a bit of a lottery and a lot depends on players turning out each week. If I were a betting man, my money would be on team six. Teams one and eight could also challenge for honours.
