Winter Leaguetoo closeto call

THE midway point in the Desmond Motors Winter league at Foyle has been reached with the teams having returned five cards.

At this stage in what is turning out to be a very competitive competition Team 11 of Ciaran Gillen, Ryan Gillen, Caolan McLaughlin and Scott Kennedy having returned a very good score of 97 points for their fifth card and an accumulated total of 462 points.

They hold a seven point lead over Team 20 of Kieran Bradley, Martin Loughrey, Brendan Barr and Jay Lucas, with the chasing pack in close contention.

The very popular Sunday Society at Foyle continues to grow in strength with a very large turnout again on Sunday with the competitors enjoyng a fine day on a course in remarkable condition at this time of year and the ever consisent Martin Loughrey (12) took top honours with an excelllent 43 points two points adrift in second place was Foyle Golf Club Captain Kevin Dunn (10) with a very impressive score of 41 points, after a four way break of tie for third place Paddy Mooney got the verdict by virtue of his superior back nine with a score of 39 points.

In the Juvenile section David Knox (Jun) (19) with 42 points came out on top, while Caolan McLaughlin (10) with 37 points was second.

The Sunday Society Competitions continue every Sunday and all Club Members are encouraged to play at their own convenience on the day.

The turkey competition winners were Cormac McGeady, Peter Duddy, Stuart Gauld, Gary Cassidy, Mark Doherty and Michael Gallagher, while the Ladies Turkey winner was Margaret McCarron.

The turkey competitions and the Desmond Winter League continues daily, while members are reminded to book their own tee time for the Sunday Society competition.
