THE Malcolm Cup cross country in Ballyclare tomorrow will be a target for local distance runners with both NI Masters and Athletics NI League points at stake.

And an innovative Winter Track & Field meeting at Templemore Sports Complex tomorrow, organised by the local Olympian Youth & Athletics club should attract attention from the sprinters, middle distance and throws and jumps fraternity.

Events from 60 metres up to 1,500 metres, all three jumps and Shot Putt are included in the first of two planned meetings, the next one set for Saturday, January 12th, 2013. The action kicks-off at 10am and closes at around 2.30pm. See full details on the Olympian youth & athletics club website.

The Annadale Striders annual Malcolm Cup promotion will see City of Derry male and female squads in action.

The Spartans are targeting honours in the ongoing ANI Cross Country League with the men in pole position and the women chasing leaders North Down and they will be out in numbers in Ballyclare tomorrow.

Both squads may not be at full strength but league points are league points and all the red vests in action will no doubt give their all over the River Park course.

The next scoring race is the City of Derry NW cross country promotion in Gransha on Saturday, December 15th and maximum points will be the target that day with strong squads likely to see action.

The NW meeting will cater for U13s, U15s, U17s and these should be useful run outs for local schools teams preparing for the District Schools championships.

The U20s will run with the Seniors and Masters in the Open 6K race to round off what should be a terrific day’s competitive action. Check out www.sparta-athletics.co.uk for more details.

Entries will be accepted on the day from 10.30am at event headquarters, the U3A Foyle building in the Gransha grounds.
