Woods set the standard by securing silver in the continuous category before collecting bronze over the points section.

Now Woods and her Evolve colleagues can continue preparations for the World Championships in the Republic of Ireland during November.

“Jessica really loves the sport and everyone in the club had a great time at the Aberdeen Opens,” said Woods’ mother, Zoe. “Finishing with two medals in Scotland was a big bonus and Jessica also has an All-Ireland gold and bronze from a previous World finals.

“Now Jessica is keen on improving on her result from the last Worlds.

“It is exciting for the club and we are all looking forward to the championships.”

KARATE

Portadown Karate Club’s annual in-house championships provided an impressive exhibition of progress from the students.

The Cascades-based outfit produced a display of self-defence techniques and counter-attacking moves across the kata sections. It also included the kumite section.

Competitors took part across two-minute rounds in pursuit of points thanks to sharp but controlled moves to key areas.
