Work begins on Armoy chicane

WORK is under way on the new chicane on the Armoy race track. The chicane is situated after the start - finish line and before McCaughan's corner on Hillside Road.

The chicane is the lay-by type used on other road race circuits including the NW200 course, and will be constructed to blend in with the existing road in both width and surface covering.

"We are very thankful to DCAL Capital Fund for making funding available for road racing to improve and enhance safety," said Clerk of the Course Bill Kennedy.

"After a lot of work ongoing since September everything came into place."

North Stone has been given the contract to construct the chicane and got to work on the project last Tuesday.

"It will enhance the course for riders and spectators as more skill and craft is needed for that section now," Bill continued.

"Chicanes are not always the most popular thing with riders but they are there for their benefit." The chicane should be complete within the next fortnight ahead of the races on August 7
