Young Ballycastle Camogs Conquer Croker

On Saturday 5th May a bus full of excited Camogs from Ballycastle made the journey to the Irish capital to realise every players’ dream of running onto the hallowed turf at Gaelic Games headquarters, Croke Park, Dublin.

The Ballycastle U12 team were one of the lucky winners in the ‘Camán to Croker’ competition that the club entered, where entries were selected based on the best ‘pitch’ - ‘Why your club should win a trip to play in Croke Park.’

Forty eight Camogie clubs took part in the ‘Camán to Croker’ event; 720 Camogie stars took to the field for a Go Games blitz and enjoyed a stadium tour and a visit to the renowned Croke Park Museum.

President of the Camogie Association, Aileen Lawlor said:

“Camán to Croker is a fantastic opportunity for our young Camogie players to sample the incredible experience of playing in Croke Park, an iconic venue for all Gaelic games supporters and players.

We are delighted that 720 Camogie players, cheered on by family and friends, were in attendance today to share in this wonderful experience. Camán to Croker further underlines our deep commitment to develop and promote the games at under-age level in all counties.”

Ballycastle were the only chosen Antrim team and one of only eight teams representing Ulster Camogie on the day.

However the girls were not to be fazed by the occasion as they played some marvellous, stylish Camogie on the big stage and notched up some great scores, much to the delight of their supporters cheering them on from the Cusack stand.

This was a fantastic occasion for these young Camógs and it is a day they will all remember for a long time to come
