Young Niamh is a winner

IT was a big week for lady members with their prestigious open competition for the Menary Cup on the Monday and then their usual weekly Tuesday competition.

In the Menary Cup it was pure joy for young Niamh Ward. This eight handicap juvenile girl swept to victory with a wonderful net 68.

The gross award in the competition went to Bronagh McKavanagh with an 84.

The section awards were competitive as well and the results are as follows:

Section A: (0-20): winner, Jeanette McDonald, net 71 (Tandragee GC); runner-up: Ray Gregg, net 73.

Section B: (21-28): winner: Grizel Turkington, net 70; runner-up: Eadaoin Ward net 73.,

Section C: (29-36): winner: Catherine Jinks, net 73; runner-up: Linda Hamilton, net 74.

Roisin Anderson won the first nine with a net 32 whilst Leverne Saunders (Tandragee GC) took the second nine with a net 33.5.

The twos sweep was shared between Roisin Anderson and D. Whan (Banbridge GC).

The competition prizes were very generously sponsored by Terra Travel.

On the Tuesday Lurgan ladies participated in the annual Australian Spoons competition. This is a pairs competition and the winning pair advanced to a District Final.

On the day the winning pair was the combination of Dolores O’Neill and June Logan with a score of 39 points. Their back nine eased Lynne Hanna and Sian Mulholland from the top prize.

The winners will represent Lurgan in the district final at Carnalea GC on Tuesday, July 26.

Three pairs shared the twos sweep on the day. They were Sheena McStay/Kate Wilson, Lynne Hanna/Sian Mulholland and Niamh McSherry/ Kathy Matchett.
