Young riders star at Ballymoney Cycling Club Circuit TT

Cycling today is seeing a lot of middle aged cyclists getting involved, but Ballymoney Cycling Club are bucking this trend and going all out to encourage the young riders to take part in the sport.

On a bright but windy evening 27 riders faced the timekeeper on the 10.4 mile Kirkhills circuit. From the 27 starters nine of them were 16 years or younger, with two young men, Ewan and Jack McMaster, riding their first ever race and in careful safety conditions with their parents following them they really enjoyed the racing experience.

Special congratulations has to go not only to Jack and Ewan (Under10) but to Ellen McAree (under14), Aaron Swan, Stuart Laverty (both Under16), Jordan McCaw (Junior), Chris Surgeoner (Under16), Adam McMaster and Luke McAvoy (Both Under14).

Ballymoney CC chairman Charlie Dickson said on the radio that it is about getting out and supporting a great cause as well as maybe kick-starting a personal healthy living routine for many of us who need a bit more exercise.

No speed just a healthy pedal down to York Corner, round the station bend to the Magic roundabout, swinging north for Mathers cross, down to the Metropole, Dhu Varren, the Black Hill around Juniper and back to the start and finish. “On two Wheels!”

Everyone is invited to come along and support Action Medical Research, hope to see you at the Pits on Sunday for the start at 11.00am
