Zanshin Shotokan Karate Club goes from strength to strength

Members of Zanshin Shotokan Karate Club have had another busy summer.

The Club have just held their annual week long summer training camp which saw over 60 students training with a different instructor each night.

A number of the instructors travelled form England to the Club. The summer session also included special courses during the day for the Northern Ireland Squad in preparation for this year’s European Championships in Zurich in November.

Masterclasses for those with higher grades wishing to expand their Shotokan Karate knowledge were also available.

Instructors at the week long camp included international competitors and club instructors, who have produced the best students that Karate has to offer.

Chief Instructor of the KUGB Sensei Andy Sherry 9th Dan and Sensei Frank Brennan 7th Dan were amongst those present.

The Club welcomed four new first Dan black belts after the members were assessed by Sensei Sherry and Sensei Brennan in a gruelling one hour grading.

In preparation to be able to grade for a Black Belt the students must fully commit to the club in the six months leading up to the date of the grading, all four of the students who graded were training four times a week sometimes twice per day in order to be mentally, physically and emotionally ready for the grading.

The club would like to take this opportunity to thank the Jim Watt Centre for their attentiveness during the weeks course and we cannot wait to do it again next year.
