Drumahoe teen in running for Miss NI

A RAVEN-HAIRED teenager from Drumahoe is on tenderhooks as she faces the prospect of vying for the title of Miss Northern Ireland in less than a week’s time.

Putting her wardrobe together for the pageant is pretty Justine McEleney, from Hazelbank, who is on the countdown to this year’s final for the Northern Ireland ‘crown’ which will be held at the Europa Hotel, Belfast, on Monday coming, May 14.

No one from Londonderry has ever won Miss Northern Ireland, so hopefully Justine will be the first to do so. She currently holds the title of ‘Miss DaVinci’s, which she won on March 24.

The entire McEleney household has now swung into action as the glamorous occasion marches ever closer, with mum and dad, Olivia and Michael, and siblings Christine, Michaela and Michael all offering encouragement and support. If successful, it will mean she will will compete directly with the newly crowned Miss Ireland, Rebecca Maguire.

At just 17 year’s of age, Justine might well find herself one of the youngest contestants, but the St Cecelia’s College Sixth Former has a level head, currently studying geography, health and social care and PE to A Level, with the aim of going on to study for a degree in paediatric nursing.

Justine also entered the Miss Ireland competition, and as a result of that, was asked to compete for the Miss NI title.

“I was really excited to be asked to compete in Miss NI. Originally I thought I was too young to enter. I thought you have to be 18 to compete, but I am so excited to be getting to the finals. I’m looking forward to the event on Monday because there are just so many lovely girls taking part in the competition and I had a really good experience competing in the Miss Ireland event.

“I am just so grateful for the opportunity to compete Miss NI and just knowing that it could lead to Miss World is exciting,” she said.

For now the stunningly pretty teenager is fulfilling her schooling schedule and squeezing in fittings for her wardrobe of glamorous attire to take to Belfast, but is remaining tight-lipped as to who is styling her look, only revealing that she is hoping to get a silver or metalic ballgown for the crowing ceremony.
