Local people feature in Ards Pipe Band Fest

The Borough of Ards Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships were held in Londonderry Park, Newtownards on Saturday, May 17.

Local bandsmen and women were among those takeing part and some local faces on the band scene were among those to take home some top trophies.

Paula Monahan, of Cullybackey Pipe Band, won the Senior Grade Drum Major prize for the second time in a row.

The main band winners were: Grade 1, St Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band; Grade 2, Manorcunningham Pipe Band; Grade 3a, Ballybriest Pipe Band; Grade 3b, Thiepval Memorial Pipe Band; Grade 4a, Cleland Memorial Pipe Band, and Grade 4b, McDonald Memorial Pipe Band.

The main drum major winners were: Adult Grade, Paula Monahan, Cullybackey Pipe Band;

Juvenile Grade, Lauren Abraham, Raffrey Pipe Band; Junior Grade, Zoe McDowell, Aughintober Pipe Band and Novice Grade: Jamie Cupples, Killeen Pipe Band.
