Orchestra brings the sound of music back to Lisburn city centre

As the world ground to a halt in March, so did the music and Lisburn Community Orchestra had to put away its instruments and end its inaugural season early.

After Lisburn Community Orchestra’s hugely successful Home Alone Christmas Concerts last December the orchestra has grown into a close-knit group of around 70 musicians.

“We had just started building our repertoire earlier this year and were preparing for a busy conclusion to our first year when we had to sadly suspend rehearsals as well as planned concerts,” said Stephen McLoughlin, Lisburn Community Orchestra Musical Director and Conductor.

“We play an eclectic range of musical styles, from light classical to popular film music and even some dance tracks, all in the name of enjoyment, sharing our talents collectively, creating something bigger that hopefully others will enjoy too when they hear us.”

Thanks to some meticulous and covid friendly planning from the Lisburn Community Orchestra committee and following the appropriate guidance in collaboration with help from Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.

Thursday night heralded a new dawn when the orchestra was able to begin making music in the streets of Lisburn once again with the strings members of the orchestra, including violins, violas, cellos and double basses.

Stephen continued: “We might have a limited window for rehearsals, between the colder weather as well the ever present threat of further restrictions, but while we can we will!”
