VIDEO: Lurgan teacher pens musical tribute to the NHS

Shelley Spiers, a P5 teacher at King’s Park Primary School in Lurgan, has been so inspired by the dedication of frontline staff during the Covid-19 crisis that she has penned a musical tribute to thank them for all their hard work.

Shelley, who is also the music coordinator as well as a former pupil at King’s Park, has written a number of songs over the years and was moved by the selflessness of the staff at the NHS to write this latest piece.

“I have been writing songs for about seven years but mostly bible based songs for children, some of which have been used by CEF And Girls’ Brigade Northern Ireland,” explained Shelley. “This song is very different to what I have done before.

“I loved hearing some of the musical performances from individual musicians recorded in their driveways and housing estates as part of the Thursday night clapping for the NHS and I really wanted to do something myself to say thank you.

“I was inspired by the slogan that appeared in many NHS photos during the early days of lockdown, which said “We come to work for you, please stay at home for us” and I really wanted to do something to express my thanks to everyone who is working on the frontline, putting themselves in danger for others.

“The song is called ‘I’ll be there for you’, as that is exactly what our NHS heroes have been saying to us since the very start of this pandemic.”
