5. Dark Tropics
Dark Tropics is a Pop-Noir duo based in Belfast consisting of Rio McGuinness and Gerard Sands, who drew inspiration from artists such as the Velvet Underground and Radiohead in order to develop their moody and distinctive music. Following their debut album in 2021, they have been steadily growing traction and their single, Midnight 10th of December, has hit over 100,00 streams since its release in 2022, as well as their song, Ink, recently being featured by Billboard as one of their top songs to get you through the week. With support from BBC Radio 1, Today FM, RTE Radio 1 and more, Dark Tropics is a duo to look out for and they already have 58k likes and 2000 followers on TikTok. 6. Moon Landing
If you’re interested in alternative, enchanting and experimental music, then Moon Landing is for you. Based in Belfast, Jake McCrea started Moon Landing as an alternative music project in 2021 with the single, The Room Is Spinning, before the release of a debut EP in November 2023. Moon Landing has enjoyed multiple sold out shows in Belfast this year, alongside two more singles being released. 7. The Florentinas
Hailing from Bangor, The Florentinas are a four-piece alternative indie band who were formed in 2019, and quickly shot to popularity, signing a publishing deal in 2020 with BMG. Since they first began they have played at multiple major concerts and festivals, such as supporting Nothing but Thieves and Snow Patrol as well as performing at Electric Picnic and Stendhal Festival. They finished out 2022 by winning the BBC Introducing Artist of the Year Award at the NI Music Awards and their single, Sandcastles, has gained well over 130,000 streams on spotify. 8. Allison McGrath
Allison McGrath is an incredibly talented upcoming musician from Warrenpoint, with moody and atmospheric music that combines R&B, reggae and soul. McGrath has been creating and performing music since 2010. In 2019 she was chosen to travel to Nashville, Tennessee, where she performed at the famous Blue Bird Cafe alongside music icons Pat Alger and Tony Arata, and co-wrote the song Never in My Lifetime alongside the acclaimed singer songwriter Benita Hill. McGrath released her newest album, Redirect this Effect, on the 2nd of November at her sold out launch gig in the American Bar in Belfast. It features the song that she wrote alongside Benita Hill as well as a range of other incredible songs. She has an upcoming gig at the Tap Room in Newcastle on the 8th of December where she will be performing her new album alongside her other popular songs.
