9. Dunseverick Castle & The Causeway Coast
There’s a reason why the North Coast has received an astonishing 98 per cent approval rating from tourists on TripAdvisor. One of the most distinctive landmarks, though easily overlooked, is the ruined Dunseverick Castle, founded by a Gaelic chieftain in the 5th century, before becoming inhabited by the O’Cahan and MacDonnell clans until the 1600s. From there, it’s a short journey west to the famous Giant’s Causeway, while also taking in the instantly recognisable Organ, Giant’s Boot and Giant’s Gate before coming to the famous basalt columns. Bear in mind, though, that this is strictly a one-way trail so you’ll possibly need to arrange a lift at the end. Photo: National Trust
