Road closures: six for Antrim and Newtownabbey drivers this week

Drivers in and around Antrim and Newtownabbey will have six National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And five of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing holdups of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that one closure already in place is expected to carry on this week:

M53, from 8pm February 23 to 6am March 17, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M53 southbound, junction 3 lane closure and slip road closure due to electrical works.

And a further five closures will begin over the next seven days:

M53, from 9pm March 14 to 5am March 15, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M53 northbound, junction 2 - carriageway closure for barriers.

M53, from 8.30am to 4pm on March 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M53 northbound, junction 3 to 2 - Lane closure for inspection/survey.

M53, from 8pm March 21 to 5am July 2, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M53 northbound and southbound, junction 6 - four - Lane closure and Slip closuresfor barrier Scheme.

M53, from 9pm March 21 to 5am March 22, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M53 northbound and southbound, junction 4 to 3 lane closure and carriageway closure due to general maintenance works.

M53, from 10pm March 21 to 5.30am April 2, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M53 northbound, junction 1 - A5139 carriageway closure due to installation of new fencing.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
