Evolution Boxing Club strikes gold at Peter O’Donnell Donegal Box Cup

Carrickfergus-based Evolution Boxing Club enjoyed a highly successful weekend at the Peter O’Donnell Donegal Box Cup, returning home with an impressive three gold medals and one silver from a team of four boxers.

The team travelled to Donegal for two days of competition, with Zack Reynolds, Preston Creighton and Cruz Blair all securing their places in Sunday’s finals following excellent performances in the opening day’s action.

Reynolds booked his place in the final with a strong victory over Hugh Crimble of Dungloe, while Creighton produced a dominant display against Aaron Kaye of St Michael’s Athy. Cruz Blair completed the trio of finalists with a decision victory over Killian Caldwell of Carrigart.

Sunday’s finals brought further success for the club, with all four boxers stepping into the ring determined to deliver their best performances.

Zack Reynolds was first to secure gold, producing an excellent display in the 54kg final to earn a points victory over Thomas McDonagh of Carrickmore and become champion. Preston Creighton followed with gold in the 60kg division after his opponent withdrew from the final, adding another achievement to his growing boxing record. Paige McCollum secured a silver medal following a closely contested final against European gold medallist Roisin Hegarty of Twin Towns. Although McCollum came up short on the judges’ scorecards, she produced a promising performance against a highly accomplished opponent and demonstrated that she has plenty of potential to build on.

Cruz Blair completed the weekend in style, claiming gold in the 63.5kg division with an impressive performance against Jake Harley of The Ring Boxing Club. Blair’s victory was a fitting reward for the hard work and commitment he continues to demonstrate in training.

The final tally of three gold medals and one silver represented an outstanding return for the Evolution team and reflected the dedication shown by the boxers in the gym.

The club, based in  West street in Carrickfergus, continues to develop young talent through its commitment to boxing and community involvement, providing opportunities for boxers to progress and achieve their potential.

The results from Donegal provide further encouragement for the club’s boxers and coaches as they continue their work towards future competitions.
