Lisburn-based author Glenn Quigley has put pen to paper once again and has just published his new novel ‘Teacup Promises’.

‘Teacup Promises’ was released in March, hot on the heels of another of his books ‘The Star We Sail By’ which came out in February.

Glenn, who is originally from Dublin and now settled in Lisburn, came to writing slighter later in life, publishing his first book ‘The Moth and Moon’ in 2021. However he certainly hit the ground running with six books now to his name.

“I wasn’t good at school,” admitted Glenn.

"Writing was the only thing I liked. English was the only thing I was halfway decent at and my mother encouraged me to write more.”

Glenn works as a visual artist and graphic designer and decided to go back to college to study graphic design. However, after a year he decided against it and turned his hand to writing.

"I didn’t get started with writing properly until 2017,” Glenn continued.

"I found a publisher in America, a small LGBTQ+ publisher for ‘The Moth and Moon’.

"I thought I’d do one book and see if I could, so then I thought I’d better do another one, then it became a trilogy with a spin off as well.

"’Teacup Promises’ is my sixth book so I’ve kept busy.”

‘Teacup Promises’, which is available exclusively on Amazon, is told across six instalments, three decades, and one pandemic, and charts the key moments in the relationships of Andrew, his boyfriend Jack, Jack’s wife Harriet, and Harriet’s lover, Stephen.

The contemporary character driven novel is a new adventure for Glenn, whose other books have been historical fiction.

“I have done a couple of contemporary short stories,” Glenn said. “I wanted to spread my wings really and do something different.

"This book started as a short story and I couldn’t leave it alone. I kept going back to it and thought there must be more to it so I tried to expand the story.

"It’s got a bit of everything – drama, comedy in places, funny and sad. It’s kind of like life.

"The characters are a bit more mature and they know themselves, they know who they are.

"It is really a character driven novel and you get into the heads of the characters and how they justify their actions.

"It is all about the characters for me.”

The response to the new book from readers and reviewers has been fantastic.

"The reception has been good,” continued Glenn.

"We have had some really brilliant reviews and great feedback from people who have reached out to me.”
