Roots spectacular as Radio Ulster returns to Flowerfield

BBC Radio Ulster are back at Flowerfield Arts Centre in Portstewart - bringing together some of the finest names in contemporary music on March 29 as award-winning broadcaster Ralph McLean presents his radio show live from the venue.

The last time Ralph broadcasted live from Flowerfield there was a wonderful reaction, with the venue packed – and thousands listening in, both live on BBC Radio Ulster and across the world online.

This show promises to be equally impressive – with the above names joined by a ‘house band’ – Anthony Toner on guitar, Clive Culbertson on bass and John McCullough on piano.

Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, two per caller.

What a line-up – Bap Kennedy is celebrating the release of a wonderful new album called The Sailor’s Revenge, with none other than Mark Knopfler producing.

Likewise attracting huge acclaim for his new album Big World is Derry man Paul Casey, an engaging live performer and a superb guitar player.

The Henry Girls played a wonderful show at Flowerfield a couple of years ago, and their multi-instrumental, close-harmony performance will be a delight.

Rising songwriting talent Ruth Trimble will also be appearing, barely a fortnight after celebrating the release of her new album.

Coleraine-born Anthony Toner needs no introduction – he was part of the line-up for the last performance and is one of Northern Ireland’s best-loved songwriters.

Along with Clive and John, he’ll form the nucleus of a ‘house band’ that will augment the sound of the other performers on selected songs.

It looks like being a wonderful evening, stitched together by the stimulating chat and hospitality provided by Ralph McLean, one of BBC Radio Ulster’s most admired presenters.

In addition to hosting the show, Ralph will interview the performers and select some CD tracks between performances.
