Daft Punk go ‘pop’ with new record

Daft Punk’s new album is a departure from the cutting edge dance sound fans will be accustomed to, writes Graeme Cousins.

While there’s still a nod to the dancefloor, Random Access Memories is very much a pop record, and an average one at that. The fact that it’s the fastest selling album of 2013 would suggest my opinion is in the minority.

My main issue with the album is that of over-indulgence, a prime example is ‘Contact’ which sounds like a tantric lathe crash.
