TV chef wants to ‘stir’ people back to work

TOP television chef Jenny Bristow is set to add a dash of excitement to the mix when she hosts an unmissable Work and Wellbeing event aimed at stirring people back to work - where else…but in Cookstown.

The ‘Work and Wellbeing Event’ is being held in the Burnavon on Tuesday June 12. But the seeds of this imaginative back-to-work menu were sown by Network Personnel – a local organisation set up to encourage people into employment and training. Throughout the day Jenny will be using food to deliver her inspirational message and a generous helping of practical advice.

The event will incorporate a cookery demonstration linking into different aspects of our food culture. And the celeb chef has a host of treats laid on – including fab summer-season recipes, fresh from the garden salads with a twist, mouth-watering bbq ideas and great low-cost ideas for shopping and cooking on a budget as well as advice on growing your own.

The initiative will appeal to a wide spectrum of people - including those who’ve recently been made redundant and are keen to upskill: those who are considering moving into the catering sector or who have a small-business idea that they want to develop, as well at the long term unemployed who might benefit from a motivational boost and those who are unable to work but who want to take up a new hobby like growing your own vegetables and using them in tasty, wholesome recipes.

“We’re aiming this programme at people who for one reason or another find themselves with the time and the interest to come along and learn something new in a very friendly, fun environment,” said Jenny. “Food and cooking is a wonderful motivator – it is a global product and one of the everyday aspects of life that involves each and every one of us.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to improve their cooking skills and beginners will be introduced to a feast of menu ideas.

Network Personnel staff will also be on-hand on the day to provide practical, straightforward advice and guidance towards getting back into work including hints and tips for CV building, filling out application forms, job searching as well as providing advice on a range of employment programmes currently delivered by Network Personnel.

You’ll also have the chance to chat with a range of exhibitors including Cookstown Leisure Centre, Gold Sure Start, CWSAN, Cookstown District Council along with others offering advice regarding helping people adopt a healthier attitude towards life and employment.

And if that’s not enough to whet your appetite – lunch will be provided for all in attendance.
