Antrim Area Hospital and Causeway Hospital are under ‘unprecedented pressure’, the Northern Health and Social Care Trust has warned.

A spokesperson for the Trust said this morning: “If you require urgent care, please do not attend our Emergency Departments. Use Phone First - call 0300 1231 123, or use the Interpreter Now app. You will be advised of the most appropriate service.

If your condition is life threatening, dial 999.”

The warning follows an exceptionally busy night at Antrim Area Hospital, with image posted on social media by St John Ambulance Antrim showing a large number of emergency vehicles parked outside the building.

“This is the volume of emergency vehicles outside Antrim ED, all with patients awaiting to be seen/treated,” the post read.

“If ambulances are parked here, there’s little left to respond. Please only phone 999 if it’s absolutely necessary. Staff inside the hospital are as equally busy treating patients.”
