Larne baby memorial garden work to start

Work is due to commence this month on a special memorial garden at Larne’s main cemetery in Craigyhill.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has provided a plot of land at the cemetery at the request of Little Snowdrops Baby Loss Support Group.

It is one of two community garden projects which have been delayed by the Covid pandemic.

A new Whitehead Community Garden is to be located at the town’s railway halt. Both are being funded through the Peace IV programme.

Little Snowdrops Baby Loss Support Group says: “Both the group and the garden will be open to all families who have been affected by stillbirth and neonatal death regardless of gender, age or religion and regardless of when their loss occurred.

“We hope that this will go some way in overcoming the isolation and stigma associated with baby loss, while offering a safe and supportive environment.

“Little Snowdrops Baby Loss Support Group Larne is an initiative developed by a local community midwife and two bereaved Larne families, distraught by the lack of support for those tragically affected by still birth and neonatal death in the Larne area.

The initiative aims to promote an informal support group alongside a baby memorial garden.
