No plans to close Covid-19 unit in Dungannon

The Southern Health and Social Care Trust has confirmed there are no plans to stand down the COVID-19 unit at South Tyrone Hospital.

The unit, which was opened in the Dungannon hospital at the end of March is designed to ensure that vital GP services continue through the COVID-19 pandemic.

As lockdown restrictions begin to lift and with Northern Ireland’s Nightingale hospital temporarily stood down in May, the Southern Trust has rejected suggestions that this COVID-19 unit could also close.

“The primary care COVID-19 unit at South Tyrone Hospital remains open,” a spokesperson for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust told the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

“The pandemic is ongoing and the unit will continue to provide care and treatment to COVID-19 patients.”
