Family’s heartfelt thank you raises vital funds for young patients in the Ulster Hospital
The Hicks familyhave raised an incredible £1,621 for the ‘Paeds in a Pod’ group at the Ulster Hospital in recognition of the outstanding care their grandson, David, received whilst he was a patient in the Paediatric Unit.
Paeds in a Pod is a group of parents and staff who work together to improve the experiences of children, young people and their parents during their time in hospital.
David’s grandmother, Hazel, explained: “I am a Church Minister and was leaving my parish when a collection was organised.
" We asked for the donations to go to Craig Ward to benefit other children.

"It was an amazing amount and everyone had taken a real interest in David’s recovery, regularly asking how he was doing. We felt this was a wonderful way to use the money.”
David also expressed his gratitude to the team who cared for him: “I think it is great that so much money was raised to help other children who are unwell in the Unit. The staff were just amazing.”
South Eastern Trust, Staff Nurse, Amy Sellar said: “It is really special to know that the care we provide is appreciated.
"We are so grateful for this donation, it will make a real difference to the children and families on the ward. It shows that the work we do is meaningful and worthwhile.”
Chairperson of Paeds in a Pod, Kate McDowell, added: “This is an absolutely fantastic donation. The money will go towards improving comfort for both children and their parents during their time in hospital.”
