Upwards of 60 lodges and bands from eight districts will be making their way through the streets to the demonstration ‘field’ on the Moneymore Road, starting at Tobermore Road from 10.45am onwards.

A number of events have already taken place to celebrate the 323rd anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne - with the fine weather attracting large crowds.

Last Saturday’s talk and demonstration about Williamite soldiers and the weapons they used during the famous battle attracted a huge turnout.

And the Free Ulster Scots Concert followed by fireworks display on Wednesday (10th) in the Orange field at Moneymore Road will also be a crowd puller.

The musical group ‘Session Beat’ will be the main performers along with several well known pipers and pipe bands from around the Province.

There will be a display of Highland Scottish dancing along with accordion, Lambeg and Fifing groups providing sideline sessions.

There are two ‘Eleventh Night’ bonfires planned for Magherafelt at Leckagh and Beechland; there are also bonfires scheduled for Maghera, Castledawson, Tobermore and Kilcronaghan.

Ulster Unionist MLA Sandra Overend this week wished all her Mid-Ulster constituents attending the Magherafelt demonstration, “a successful and enjoyable 12th”.

“This event is a great chance to take in the atmosphere and get out and about and speak to constituents about the issues which concern them,” she said, stressing it was an event people looked forward to every year.”
