£2,000 for Neonatal Unit

A Ballymoney couple, whose daughters were born 15 weeks premature, have raised a staggering £2,000 for the Perinatal Trust Fund in the Royal Neonatal Unit.

Christina and Stephen Shiels, organised a coffee morning in February to help raise funds to say thank you to the hospital which saved their twin girls lives.

Chloe and Taylor, now two-years-old, were treated at the Royal for 17 weeks when they were born weighing just 1lb each.

Speaking to the Times Christina explained: ”The coffee morning was held at Ballymoney Football Club on February 20 and raised a staggering £2,000 for the Perinatal Trust Fund.

“We would really like to thank everyone for their support through donations, baking, helping serve tea/coffee on the morning and the local businesses for the prizes donated to our raffle. Fyfes Car Parts, my husband’s work, donated a £500 drill to auction off which was extremely generous.”

The Shiels family recently revisted the hospital to present them with their fundraising cheque.

Christina added: “We will always be eternally grateful to the Royal who cared for our twin girls Chloe and Taylor for 17 weeks when they were born prematurely 15 weeks early weighing just 1lb.

“They are happy toddlers and it is thanks to them that they are now doing amazing. The coffee morning was our way of thanking all the staff and medical team from the bottom of our hearts, we own them everything.”
