Cathy McMurtry, previous PTA chairperson and Sharon Gorman, chairperson, handed over a cheque for £6500 to principal Dr Sheeran and pupils.

Cathy explained: “These funds were raised last year by organising discos, bingo nights, annual fairs, colouring competitions, etc. School pupils and their families had the opportunity to join in a lot of these activities to make sure lots of fun was had while raising this much-needed money for the school.

“We’d like to specially thank Domino’s Pizza, Tesco Carrickfergus and Lilliput Cafe for their generosity in helping us fund throughout the year through donations, workshops and events.

“The money raised for the school is becoming more important than ever as school budgets continue to be cut.

“This year’s offering will be used throughout the year for an accelerated reading scheme, pupil rewards, subsidising school outings, P7 leaver hoodies, sports day medals, etc. These things benefit the school, its pupils and their parents.

“Sharon Gorman is taking over as chairperson this year and is on a great start, giving the children and their families lots of new events and activities to join in and raise some more much-needed funds.”
