Ballymoney and Moyle safest for police officers last year

Being a police officer in Northern Ireland means facing all sorts of hazards at work including human bites, electric shocks and whiplash.

But being on duty in Ballymoney or Moyle means officers are less likely to come up against such difficulties.

For figures obtained by a Sunday newspaper show that police officers working in H District - which includes Ballymoney, Moyle, Coleraine, Larne and Ballymena, were the safest during 2013.

The figures shows that 1,661 Northern Ireland cops were hurt at work between November 1, 2012 and October 31, 2013.

Injuries sustained range from abrasion, bruising, scalding or burning, internal crush injuries, fractures and lacerations to electric shock, whiplash, cuts and bites from persons or animals.

Most officers were hurt in the PSNI’s A District which takes in north and west Belfast, followed by B District which includes east and south Belfast.

H District was the safest area with 108 oficers injured in the course of duty in the period last year.
