Battle of Somme parade: nine charged in Coleraine

Police officers involved in Operation Chimera have arrested and charged nine people with disorderly behaviour and provocative conduct following disorder at a Battle of the Somme parade Coleraine last month.

Operation Chimera began on Monday but has been in the planning phase for the last number of weeks. Officers have been collecting and assessing evidence since the start of July as well as coordinating the resourcing of the Operation.

More arrests are expected to follow but police are keen that anyone with information in relation to the disorder, which centred on the Pates Lane area during the evening of July 1, continues to contact police on the 101 number. Or, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

All nine will appear in Coleraine Magistrates Court later this month. As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).
